Anxiety

Having some anxiety is normal though sometimes our anxious response can become overactive and lead to frequent and prolonged feelings of discomfort. Anxiety may look like avoiding activities or certain situations, repetitive worries or ruminating thoughts, behavior problems, or having a tense or restless body. If this sounds familiar, there may be an underlying anxiety disorders. There are a range of different anxiety disorders that can be treated in therapy including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Specific Phobias, Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD), Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, and Separation Anxiety Disorder. Depression

Depression can impact multiple areas of your life. Depression can cloud your thinking and affect the way you view yourself, your relationships with family and loved ones, and the world around you. There are a variety of factors that may lead to depression including stress, loss, peer conflict, or difficulty in school. Symptoms of depression can include changes in mood such as prolonged periods of sadness and irritability, as well as loss of interest in preferred activities. Depression can also impact in concentration in school, eating, energy, and sleeping.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is an effective and evidenced based form of treatment. CBT is a more action focused therapy where you will set goals and learn tangible coping skills. CBT works to improve mood, feelings, and overall functioning and is suitable for a variety of needs. In CBT, the therapist and client work as a team to problem solve and overcome obstacles. A key component of CBT is homework and utilizing your skills outside of the therapy room. CBT is meant to be a short-term form of treatment that teaches you the skills to be your own therapist.

Evidence based therapy like CBT while working with a trusted professional in a supportive and collaborative manner is the best form of treatment for anxiety and depression.
